Spark Careers Privacy Policy

This Spark Careers Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and share your personal information. We hope you find it honest, clear and easy to understand.

Where this Policy says Spark, “we” or “us”, it means Spark New Zealand Trading Limited, Spark New Zealand Limited and our related group of companies.

This Privacy Policy applies whenever you use the Spark Careers portal. It does not apply to the use of Spark’s other services.

From time to time we may update this policy. We will provide you with fair notice of any changes by posting the updated policy here. If the changes are significant, we may also notify you directly. If you aren’t happy with the changes you can choose to delete your profile and information.

It is up to you if you want to provide information to us but we might not be able to assist your employment journey fully if you do not.

What is personal information?

“Personal information” is any information that can be used to personally identify you. This information may include your resume, CV, academic transcripts, interview records, reference information, vaccine and immunisation records (if required for the particular role or otherwise provided) and any test results

Information we collect

We collect information from you when you use our Spark Careers portal and if you share information with Spark through correspondence and communications as part of your job application.

We may also collect information about you from third parties, including recruiters, and referees (when we carry out background or employment checks or speak to your referees, with your prior consent). We may disclose the information you supply to us to your referees.

We may also collect information about you from public sources eg social media such as LinkedIn or public registers.

How we use your information

We store your personal information on our own servers here in New Zealand and in cloud data centres outside New Zealand. We take care to carefully select data centre and storage service providers whom we trust with your information

We will use your information for human resources and business management purposes (Purposes) including:

  • conducting background and employment checks;
  • carrying out recruitment processes to assess your suitability, eligibility (including whether you can perform the role safely) and qualifications for employment with Spark;
  • managing your employment and your employment relationship;
  • confirming your ability to perform your role safely for our customers, Spark colleagues, suppliers, related companies and any other third party stakeholder; and
  • statistical analysis/reporting.


If you accept employment with Spark, your information will become part of your Spark’s employment record, to be held in accordance with applicable laws, the terms of your employment and Spark policies that relate to the Purposes set out above.

Spark will hold your personal information for as long as it is required for the Purposes and as required by law. If you are unsuccessful in your application your profile and information will be held on Spark’s candidate database unless deleted by you (which you may choose to do at any time).

How we share your information

We may disclose your information to third parties where required by law or with your consent (eg to your nominated referees and agents/service providers to carry out employment and background checks). We may also disclose your information to our recruitment partners and human resources advisers if required for any of the Purposes above and within Spark group companies and divisions and Spark partnerships and joint ventures.

Accessing and correcting your information

Please make sure that your personal information is accurate, complete, up-to-date and not misleading when it is disclosed to Spark
